Muhire (above) and I kicked it Kigali style today. We started our day off in mumugyi (the center of town) with a typical Rwandan buffet-style, carb-filled lunch at Collines (not to be confused with the famous hotel) to ensure that my constant need for feeding did not interrupt our tour. From there, we boarded the bus to Nyamirambo where I was introduced to the local watering holes which are conveniently located behind my office… who knew? From Nyamirambo, we could see the entire city and Mount Kigali. Muhire wanted me to get a good look at Kigali’s “slums” so we boarded another bus that took us across town and ended in Nyabugogo (the bus depot). Having already visited Nyabugogo yesterday to meet up with the Hashers, we departed for Kimironko which took us past “Mass Ave” - the street filled with Embassies (the US being the largest) and gov’t buildings - beyond Nyarutarama, past the Stadium, and ending at my new favorite place, the market. Muhire helped me buy some fabric and negotiate with the market’s tailors, and by Tuesday, I should have a brand new dress! After browsing through the aisles of fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and toys, we boarded our final bus back to mumugyi where we met up with Muhire’s friend, Gaby, for some early evening juice and tea. Not a bad way to end le week-end…
